Hastie and Lacko take Pro/Pro

John Hastie of Lively Golf Course and George Lacko of Pinegrove have captured the 2007 NOPGA Pro/Pro Championship which took place at Timberwolf Golf Course on Monday.

The Professionals encountered a tough test. Playing from the Championship Black Tees, Timberwolf was stretched to the max of 7,126 yards. Further complicating matters and making club selection difficult was strong winds gusting up to 40 Km/h. This made playing conditions tougher for the competitors as they encountered some off the North's toughest holes, including the famed 235 yard, par 3 15th and the 581 yard, par 5 9th.

Despite the elements, the winners shot a 1-under 71. Hastie and Lacko held off Timberwolf Pro Sam Yawney and his partner David Banks from Southern Ontario who were just one shot back at even par 72.

Rounding out the top 3 were Paul Schweyer of Idywylde Golf and Country Club and his partner Jeff Hamilton of the Sault Ste. Marie Golf and Country Club. Schweyer and Hamilton shot a 2-over 74.

Next event will be the Pro/Junior Championship taking place July 16th at the Pinewood Park Golf Course.
