Garagan repeats as NOPGA Champ

Dan Garagan of Pinewood Park Golf Course turned in a 2 round total of 141, enough to hold off three other professionals to win the 2007 NOPGA Championship Presented by Titleist and Footjoy.

Firing a 2-under 69 in the first round, Garagan was tied going into day 2 with Paul Schweyer of Idlywylde and lurking one shot back was John Hastie of the host club Lively. Rounding out the next couple of spots on day 1 included Jeff Hamilton of the Sault Golf and Country Club, Tommy Ferrari playing out of The Devil's Paintbrush, Ryan Cooney from North Bay Golf and Country Club and David Banks from Jim McLean's Golf School at Angus Glen.

Day 2 found the Lively Golf Course harder due to warm winds and higher temperature. Holding off charges by Hamilton and Ferrari, Garagan finished the round with a 1-over 72 to capture the event.

On the senior side, Frank Whibley of Orillia Golf claimed top spot with a 147 followed by Sam Yawney of Timberwolf at 151. There was a tie for top Assistant , Ryan Cooney and Cam Muirhead share the 2007 title bettering Scott Burns by 5 shots.

Congratulations to all participants and host Professional John Hastie and then entire staff of Lively Golf Course for a great long weekend. Also thanks to Titleist/Footjoy rep Steve Levick for his continued commitment to Professional Golf in Northern Ontario.

Next event will be the Pro-Super Championship, hosted September 24th at the Crimson Ridge Golf Course in Sault Ste. Marie.
