John Hastie of Lively captured the 2009 NOGPA Match Play Championship by defeating Paul Schweyer of Idywylde 3&2.

Hastie moved into the the final match by defeating Tom Clark of Timberwold on the first extra hole in the semifinal. Schweyer advanced by defeating Pinewood's Dan Garagan 1-up.

Listed below are the Top 4 finishers this year.

Hastie overall NOPGA Season Points Champion

John Hastie of Lively turned in another great year of steady performance to win the overall points Championship for 2009.

In 2009 Hastie won The NOPGA Spring Championship and the season long Match Play event. Hastie also had 2nd place finishes in the NOPGA Championsip and Pro/Super/Director Events. These high finishes distanced himself from George Lacko of Pinegrove who was 17 points behind Hastie when the final tally was done.

Finishing in a tie for 3rd was Ryan Bastien of Idywylde and Dan Garagan of Pinewood. Below is a list of the Top 10 and their final points for 2009.

Garagan wins final 2009 NOPGA Event

Dan Garagan fired a 4-under 68 to take the 2009 NOPGA Pro/Super/Director Tournament at the North Bay Golf and Country Club this Monday.

Rounding out the top 3 were John Hastie of Lively with a 1-under 71 and Russ Dasilva with a 1-over 73.

NOPGA Championship Results

Sam Yawney shot the low round on day 2 with a 2-under 70 and with that captured the 2009 NOPGA Championship with a 146 (+2) total. With the win, Yawney also became the oldest winner of the event at 56 years old.

Finishing second was John Hastie of Lively at +3 and rounding out the top 3 was Ryan Bastien with a 2 day total of +8 and taking top spot for the Assistants Title.

Below are the results for the top 10 and also shows the NOPGA team for the Canadian Club Pro Championship which takes place in Port St. Lucie Florida in November. The next NOPGA event is the Pro/Super in September.

Hastie takes 2009 NOPGA Spring Championship

Here are the final results from the 2009 NOPGA Spring Championship played at Stone Ridge at Elliot Lake, May 24th and 25th.

John Hastie of Lively returns to the winner's circle shooting a 2 day total of 149. John held off a second day charge by George Lacko of Pinegrove to win by 2 strokes.

Rounding out the top three was a tie by Nick Yawney of Timberwolf and Dan Garagan of Pinewood Park, each shooting 154 over the 2 rounds.

Thank you to all participating Professionals and to Host Professional Travis Spiess on another successful start to the NOPGA Tournament season.

Next tournament is the Pro/Pro Best Ball being held June 22 at The Sault Ste. Marie Golf and Country Club.

Garagan wins Pro/Super/Director

Current NOPGA Champion Dan Garagan outlasted Match Play Champion George Lacko in a three hole playoff to take the 2008 NOPGA Pro/Super/Director Title at the Eagle Lake Golf Course on Monday.

Both golfers were tied at 5-under at the par 73 track in South River. Finishing in third was Ryan Bastien. A big thanks to host Professional Dave St. Onge for a great outing.

Important Information for Zones Regarding New Partnership in Rules of Golf

The Canadian PGA and the Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA) are pleased to announce their latest partnership in National education. It is now a requirement for ALL Canadian PGA Apprentices to complete their Level 2 Rules of Golf online through the RCGA.

Therefore, it is mandatory that all Apprentices complete the online Level 2 rules seminar through the RCGA and complete all online assignments and examinations before they are eligible to write their Class “A” exam as this is now the National standard requirement that everyone must complete.

This seminar can be taken at any point throughout the year and is being offered to Canadian PGA Apprentices at a 30% discount through the RCGA at a cost of $34.95. The course enrolment fee also includes the Rules of Golf and Decisions Book.

To register please Apprentices should go to www.rulesofgolf.ca and use their Canadian PGA Identification Number to register.

Lacko wins NOPGA Match Play Championship

George Lacko of Pinegrove was crowned the 2008 NOPGA Match Play Champion defeating Paul Schweyer 1-up.

The match got off to a slow start for Lacko losing the first hole, he then reeled off 4 of the next 5 holes to go 3 up through 6. Schweyer took holes 8 and 9 to get back to 1-down for the front nine.

Holes 10 and 11 were halved, and Schweyer chipped in on 12 to make the match all square. Both players birdied 13, Lacko then birdied 14 to go back to 1-up.

Halved holes on 15, 16 & 17, put Lacko 1-up going to 18. On 18, Schweyer hit his approach to a foot and Lacko hit his to 20 feet. Lacko conceded Schweyer's birdie putt and then rolled in his putt to win the match 1-up.

Congratulations to George Lacko, the 2008 NOPGA Match Play Champion.

Next event is the Pro/Super/Director tournament on the 15th at Eagle Lake Golf Course, hosted by Head Professional Dave St. Onge.

Lacko, Schweyer match up in Match Play Finals

George Lacko of Pingrove and Paul Schweyer of Idylwylde are set to lock horns in the Final of the 2008 NOGA Match Play Championship.

Lacko wasted no time in dispatching Kyle Paquette in the first Semi-Final 7&6. In the second, Schweyer was also victorious but took a little longer, defeating Sam Yawney of Timberwolf 3&1.

The final match is set to be completed before September 14th, with the winner being crowned at the 2008 NOPGA Pro/Super/Director Tournament on the 15th.

Best of luck to both Finalists.
